Hi, my name is Tsiuri Chachua. I am a Georgian artist living in Michigan. I use color and brushstroke to express my beliefs, hope, and love. I see my art as the performance I leave behind on this stage called life.
My art has evolved alongside my personal journey, reflecting the stages of emotions experienced throughout my life. It begins with my early days as a young artist in the Soviet Union, where freedom of expression was stifled. I then moved through the chaos of the civil war in Georgia following the collapse of the USSR, finally leading to the profound sense of freedom in my homeland. Holding my child for the first time marked the emergence of my beacon of hope, culminating in my arrival on the land of the free— the United States of America.
I aspire for my story to resonate through my work, serving as a testament to what my family and country have endured. I want future generations to see that hope and love were the forces that propelled me through unimaginable challenges, enabling me to achieve what once seemed unattainable.
When you look at my work, I hope you perceive that essence— the hope, love, and resilience that defines it. I intentionally refrain from naming my art, allowing it to convey pure emotion and evoke individual reactions from each viewer.
I hold a PhD from the Tbilisi State Academy of Art (TSAA) in Georgia. I served as a professor and chair of the drawing department at the Academy until my relocation to the United States. My artistic journey has led me to numerous exhibitions and participation in art festivals across Europe and the USA. While I primarily work with oil on canvas, I also incorporate mixed media into my pieces. My style is predominantly abstract, though I create works that include still life, nature, and graphics, as well as acrylic on canvas.
